Five sugar mills in the district have stopped procurement of sugarcane for this season.
According to district cane officer (dco) O P Yadav, five sugar mills in Rohana, Titawi, Tikola, Bhesani and Khaikheri closed their crushing work for the season.
The remaining sugar mills in Mansurpur, Khatoli and Morna would be closed by April 27.
Meanwhile, the Bhesani mill has closed crushing work but it has not yet cleared dues of Rs 274.68 crore to the farmers in its jurisdiction, the district cane officer said.
