Women chefs continue to find it difficult to break the glass ceiling in the domestic food industry, says chef Davinder Kumar who has played a key role in bringing the chef's profession and the artists behind it recognition and rewards.

According to Kumar despite a growth in the industry in the last twelve years and a spurt in women opting for a culinary career, their numbers continue to remain less than those of men.

"To encourage girls, we have instituted a 'Lady Chef of the Year' award. In totality, considering the kitchen or starting up their own businesses, the number of lady chefs have increased but unfortunately not as compared to men," says Kumar, President of the Indian Federation of Culinary Associations (IFCA).

The IFCA is organising the 12th edition of 'Annual Chef Awards 2015', in association with World Association of Chef Societies, which begins here tomorrow.

The event has been categorised into three formats- 'Trade Test', 'Chef Summit' and a grand finale 'Chef Awards 2015'.

As a prelude to awards, ICF organised trade tests for professional chefs under eleven categories. Chefs certified by World Association of Chefs Societies judged the event and the winners of Chef Awards is set to be announced on October 23.

Malaysian Chef, Lee Chan Wai is set to chair a jury besides renowned national and international chefs.

"The Chef Summit is an educational workshop for young chefs where renowned speakers from the industry share their knowledge with youngsters on different issues," Kumar said adding that the purpose was "to promote the profession and honour the chefs.
