Forests in 6190 acres saved from fires in J&K

Forests area in 6190 acres has been saved from fires in the last three years by the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Protection Force.

"The FPF has saved 49526 kanals (6190 Acres) of forest area during fire fighting activities in last three years in Jammu and Kashmir," Jammu and Kashmir Forest Protection Force (JKFPF) Director Suresh Gupta said.

The department retrieved 911 kanals (113 Acres) in 2013-14 from encroachers, 451 kanals (56 Acres) in 2014-15 and 4233 kanals (529 Acres) in 2015-16 and demolished illegal structures on forest land, he said.

The Forest department will undertake digitisation of records of forest land and FPF personnel will undertake regular patrolling of forests in the evening hours.
 

The force will also set up a helpline number across the state for the general masses to report incidents of forest fire, Gupta said.
