Former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University R Radhakrishnan was today sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment by a vigilance court here over irregularities in purchasing furniture and also accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
When the case came up today before the vigilance court, the special judge sentenced Radhakrishnan to five years RI. He was also slapped with a fine of Rs 1.10 lakh.
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption had registered a case against Radhakrishnan for reportedly taking commission for purchasing furniture in 2008 and 2009 and also for possessing assets worth Rs 1.37 crore in his name and that of his wife.
Radhakrishnan, who was suspended from his post, was arrested in August and lodged in the Central Jail here.
