A retired Block Education Officer (BEO) of the Chatarpur block of Palamau district was arrested on corruption charges from Hazariagh in connection with recruitment of para-teachers in Palamau district in 2011, the police said.

The BEO Ramashish Prasad, now retired from service, was arrested from his house last night, said Sub-divisional Police Officer, Sanjay Kumar.

Kumar said a para-teacher Brajbhusan Lal had registered an FIR in Chatarpur police station in 2011 accusing Prasad of collecting Rs 12.66 lakh illegally in lieu of appointment of para-teachers, while he was the BEO in Chatarpur block.

On the directive of the administration, he said a probe was conducted and Prasad was found guilty, leading to his arrest.

Prasad was forwarded to jail today, he added.
