Former VC of Haridwar-based university booked

A former vice chancellor of a Haridwar-based university was booked for allegedly misusing her position to appoint ineligible candidates as teachers during her tenure in 2010, the police said today.

The present vice chancellor of the Uttarakhand Sanskrit University Piyush Kant Dikshit, in a letter to SSP Haridwar, had alleged that the former VC Rani Pandey appointed 12 ineligible candidates during her tenure, SHO, Bahadarabad police station, Manohar Bhandari said.

According to the complaint, Pandey appointed 12 candidates as teachers -- 11 assistant professors and one professor -- despite the fact that they did not fulfill the eligibility criteria, he said.
 

The former VC has been booked under relevant sections of IPC, including 420 (cheating), Bhandari said.
