Four car lifters were today arrested after a shootout near here in which one of them was injured.
The incident happened during a vehicle check in the wee hours at the Railway Junction area in the city.
When a police team stopped a car, a person, who was later identified as Tirunelevi Manikandan, fired at them four times using his pistol but it misfired, City Police Commissioner A Amulraj said.
Police returned the fire, injuring Manikandan.
Seeing this, two persons in another car fled from the spot.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested persons were involved in car lifting cases throughout the country.
The car in which the four were travelling has been seized.
Manikandan has been admitted to the Government Hospital here, police said.
