Four siblings, including a pair of twins, were burnt alive in a deep forest area of East Godavari district, police said today.

The tragic incident took place yesterday in a remote village named Banda under Rampachodavaram division. The victims were aged 5, 3 and twins aged 1 year, Rampachodavaram Circle Inspector of Police Geetha Ramakrishna said.

The children were sleeping inside their hut while their parents had gone into the forest when the dwelling suddenly caught fire, she said.

All the four were burnt alive and the hut was reduced to ashes, the officer said.

It is suspected that dry leaves and grass lying around the hut of the tribal family caught fire due to sun's heat and friction. This fire then enveloped the hut, she said.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the family.
