Four drown in separate incidents in J-K

Four boys drowned in three separate incidents in Kashmir Valley in the last 24 hours, police said today.

Two boys Abdul Qayoom Sheikh and Mohammad Altaf Sheikh, both residents of Checki-Pohru area of Nowgam here, were drowned in river Jhelum at Baghi Shakoor Shah while taking a bath, they said, adding that efforts are on to retrieve the bodies.

In another incident, a 12-year-old boy Ashiq Husain Ganie, a resident of Lalpora area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district, was drowned while taking bath in a water reservoir at Rethnag.

In a similar incident, Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir (7) was drowned in a water reservoir near his home in Tangchek area of the district, police said.
 

The bodies of both the boys were fished out and handed over to the families for last rites, he said.

Meanwhile, the sand miners in north Kashmir's Bandipora district found a body while extracting sand from the river Jhelum at Shilvat.

The deceased was identified as Idress Hussain Bhat, a resident of Indra Nagar locality of Srinagar, as per the information on the identity card found from his possession, police added.
