Ten women and four children were injured after an allegedly drunk driver lost control of his SUV in a crowded weekly market near Khoda Colony on NH-24 here, police said today.

The vehicle then hit the stairs of a shop and turned turtle. The driver tried to flee from the spot but was overpowered by the locals and handed over to the police, SP Salman Taj Patil said.

The incident took place around 11 PM yesterday when the victims were shopping at the market. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital where the condition of two women is stated to be critical, he added.

The driver is a resident of Chijarsi in Greater Noida. A case has been lodged against him and investigation is underway, Patil said.
