Futile attempt to fell sandalwood tree

Unidentified persons made a futile attempt to fell and decamp with a sandalwood tree here today, police said.

Residents of Sivaram Nagar in Ramanathapuram informed police that they saw some persons fleeing when they rushed to the spot on hearing the sound of the tree being cut early morning, they said.

Police found the chopped branches and the uncut six foot tall trunk.
