Gandhi birth anniversary celebrated in Bengal

Mahatma Gandhi's 144th birth anniversary was celebrated throughout West Bengal today with various programmes organised to pay tributes to the Father of the Nation.

Senior political leaders cutting across party lines paid floral tributes at his memorial here.

Governor MK Narayanan paid his tributes at the Gandhi statue at Maidan here and at Gandhi Ghat in Barrackpore.

Various cultural programmes were also organised across the city to commemorate the day.
