Gang of inter-state car thieves operating in UP and AP busted

Five persons who stole cars from Uttar Pradesh and sold them in Andhra Pradesh were arrested here today.

The arrested persons and the stolen cars were shown to reporters today by Warangal Urban Police Superintendent A Venkateshwar Rao.

Those arrested are Ashok Kumar Sharma alias 'Chotu' of Uttar Pradesh, K Darshan of Salkhpur of Bhachannapet mandal, K Kiran Kumar Reddy and A Bharath Reddy of Hanamkonda and Gattu Ashok Reddy of Kommala village of Geesugonda mandal, the police said.

The racket came to light during a routine check-up this morning at Subedari when the police checked Kiran Kumar Reddy's car and asked him for valid papers.
 

Reddy said Ashok Kumar Sharma and his friend Maneesh Dixit from Uttar Pradesh used to steal cars in the northern Indian state and then bring them to Warangal.

A 12-member gang, which included local accomplices, used to sell these cars, the police said.

Out of the 12 car thieves, five have been arrested, and a manhunt is on to nab the rest of the gang, the police said.
