In an audacious daylight heist, a six-member gang robbed Rs 3.80 crore from a van, carrying cash to be delivered at an ATM kiosk, at Nalasopara in this district adjoining Mumbai today, police said.

The robbery took place around 3.30 pm near the ATM of Axis bank at Pathankar Park.

Police said the robbers came in a Toyota Qualis car and lay in wait. As soon as the bank personnel opened the backdoor of the van to take out the box containing money, they pounced on the guards manning the vehicle and assaulted them with hockey sticks.

While some of the muggers engaged guards, others lifted the box from the van and kept it in their car before fleeing from the spot.

"An FIR is being registered in this regard and our teams have spread across the district to nab the accused," said an officer at Nalasopara police station.
