Endorsing the demands of various Galo organizations, the All Galo Students' Union (AGSU) today asked the state government to be responsive to the demands of the organizations by notifying creation of Lower Siang district with its headquarters.
"The state government should not play with the sentiments of the people living in foothills, and should declare and notify the district headquarters at the earliest" to avert the possibility of a bandh call, a joint statement issued by Jorik Bagra and Tonya Noshi, president and general secretary of the union said.
Since the state government had already passed the bill in the assembly, for what reason it had delayed declaration of the headquarters, the union wondered and added that the organizations fighting for the cause would have no other options than resorting to bandh calls.
Pointing out that peaceful dharnas, public rallies and numerous representations to the government by various Galo organization in the past decade bore no fruits, the union alleged that only hollow assurance were given by the government on the 'genuine issue'.
