Girl murder: Grandmother, aunt in police custody

Five days after the mutilated body of a four-year-old girl was found at a New Town house in North 24 Parganas district, her grandmother and aunt have been arrested and remanded to police custody in connection with the murder.

Arati Naskar, the grandmother of the girl, Preeti Naskar, and Kabita Naskar, her aunt, were arrested yesterday and given 14 days' police remand today, DCDD (Bidhan Nagar Commissionerate) K P Barui said.

Police had requested a local court for the remand of the accused for further interrogation.

The body of the girl with fingers chopped off were found on October 14 from a room on the terrace of her uncle's house, two days after she went missing on the Mahalaya morning.
 

According to Biddhannagar Commissionerate sources, the arrested duo confessed to the crime after several hours of intense grilling last night and based on their statements police today launched a search for the toddler's dismembered fingers.

Police were banking on the Central Forensic Laboratory to give them a breakthrough.

Police were also examining reports about some of the family members of the accused practising occults.
