Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) today issued a notice to South MCD over non-maintenance of a drain in Sreeniwaspuri area in which a 3-year-old girl had fallen.
The girl, identified as Kiran, fell in the drain yesterday afternoon when she was playing with her five-year-old brother Sawan. The portion of the slab which was covering the drain was broken from the edge, police had said.
While the rescue operations are still on there has been no success yet.

"The municipal corporation has been asked to explain the reasons for non-covering of the open portion of the drain and name of the officers responsible for maintenance of the drain and details of the action taken or proposed against the said officials," a DCW official said.
The girl's family alleged that there were many complaints made to the concerned department about the open drain and how it posed a danger but nobody took any action.
"We have also asked for copies of complaints received by SDMC regarding the drain being open and action taken on each complaint and what are the measures being taken to ensure such incidents do not occur in future," the official added.
The SDMC has been given a week's time to respond to the notice.
