After cutting a sorry figure for violating the traffic rules a week ago, six Goa legislators today arrived for the Session on their motorbikes wearing helmet.

Five legislators, who drove on the National Highway on April 5 without wearing helmet and one of them without a number plate, were fined by the state transport department.

Total nine MLAs, including four pillion riding, were involved in violating the traffic rules.

Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado, who was earlier fined, told media persons that they came wearing helmet today as "they had realised the mistake."

Five Independent MLAs - Furtado, Rohan Khaunte, Benjamin Silva, Carlose Almeida and Naresh Sawal, and Goa Vikas Party legislator Fransisco Miccky Pacheco rode to the Assembly wearing protective headgear.

"Nobody is above the law. We are lawmakers and we have to abide by the rules," Furtado said.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar last week had assured the Legislative Assembly that the entire episode would be used by the state government for positive purpose - to create awareness about traffic laws.
