Gold worth Rs 12 lakh seized at airport

Immigration officials at the NSC Bose International Airport here have seized gold worth Rs 12 lakh from a passenger.

Airport officials today said the man from Howrah district landed here from Bangkok in a Thai Airways flight last night and was trying to get out of the airport in a hurry.

However, immigration officials caught him and during search, 12 pieces of gold weighing altogether 473 gram, was found from his trouser pockets.

As per law, a passenger can be arrested only if the value of gold he/she is carrying exceeds Rs 20 lakh.

Thus, the gold was seized from the man and he was allowed to go, the officials said.
