Government sanctions Rs 2 lakh help for footballer Bahadur

The government has sanctioned a financial assistance of Rs two lakh to former footballer Bir Bahadur, who is living in "indigent condition."

A Sports Ministry press release stated that the ex-gratia assistance has been sanctioned from National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons.

The scheme provides for lumpsum financial assistance to outstanding sportspersons of the yester years, who are at present living in indigent circumstances.

Bahadur was part of the team, which ended twice ended runner-up in 1966 and 1969 in the National Football Championship, Santosh Trophy.
