Govt accommodation for artistes: Proposal for revising norms

The proposal to revise existing guidelines for allotment of government accommodation to artistes has been sent to the Cabinet Committee on Accommodation, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

In his reply to a question, Minister of State for Culture, Mahesh Sharma, said that allotment of government accommodation to eminent artistes is governed by the guidelines in an order of the Ministry of Culture.

Stating that the allottees were given accommodation with the approval of Cabinet Committee on Accommodation and were also granted extension from time to time, he said that the last extension was granted up to July 31, 2014.

Any decision regarding the matter of vacation of such accommodations is taken with the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Accommodation, which is the apex body for deciding on such issues, he added.
 

"Going by the recommendations of the Selection Committee headed by Secretary (Culture), Ministry of Culture, for allotment of government residential accommodation, the proposal to revise the existing guidelines for allotment of government accommodation to artistes and also the option either to roll over for one year or cancel the allotment has been sent to the Cabinet Committee on Accommodation except in case of one artist, in which cancellation of the allotment has been recommended," the minister said.
