The opposition Congress today asked the Puducherry government to ensure that women staying alone in houses were safe and secure here.
Talking to reporters here, the Leader of the Opposition V Vaithilingam claimed that the murder of a housewife who was staying alone in her house in neighbouring Muthialpet yesterday and also robbing her of her jewels, showed that anti-social elements had started reviving their activities in Puducherry.
Vaithilingam recalled that a pawn broker was murdered at the premises of his shop on April 5 last year and no one had been arrested so far, expressing concern over the delay in police action.
