Govt takes stock of port security

To avert any possible terror attack on ports, the government today reviewed their security preparedness.

Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State (Road Transport & Highways and Shipping), held the review meeting of security of ports and coastline of Gujarat in Gandhinagar today.

"Keeping in mind threat of terror attacks to ports and the coastline of the country, Mandaviya took this review meeting with chief secretary, DG Police and Coast Guard Head of Gujarat," the ministry of shipping said in a statement.

During the meeting, the minister discussed steps taken by security agencies, possible future threats to ports and preparedness, the statement said.
 

Gujarat has the longest 1,600-km coastline in the country with the highest number of ports.

India has 12 major ports under the control of the Centre and about 200 non-major ports under states.
