Police today detained Congress workers who blocked a road here to protest the detention of party vice-president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi, where he tried to meet the family of an ex-serviceman who allegedly committed suicide over the issue of OROP.
Seven Congress workers, including Leader of Opposition in Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) Chandrakant Bhatthu, were detained when they were staging protest near Khanderao market, a party leader said.
"As part of the protest, party workers enforced 'chakka jam' (road blockade) on Rajmahal Road for 30 minutes before the police detained them," Prashant Patel, president of city unit of Congress, said.

The protest was organised to condemn Gandhi's detention when he went to meet the family members of ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal, who allegedly committed suicide yesterday over the issue of One Rank One Pension.
He was released by the Delhi Police late in the evening.
