Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana ESL Narasimhan today congratulated Kidambi Srikanth who became the first Indian male shuttler to achieve the world number one ranking in the modern ranking system.

Srikanth made both the Telugu states and the country proud by achieving the badminton world number one rank, the governor said and wished him many more successes in the future, according to a Raj Bhavan press release here.

Srikanth became the first Indian male shuttler to achieve the world number one ranking in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) chart released today.

Legendary Prakash Padukone was regarded as the world number one player during his heydays before the modern day computerised ranking system was introduced.

Srikanth thus became only the second Indian after Saina Nehwal, who had occupied the women's top spot in 2015, to achieve the feat.

This follows his consistent run last year when he won four titles. He was conferred the Padma Shri award this year.
