Hartal peaceful in the district

: The 12-hour hartal called jointly by some Hindu outfits and Kerala Temple Protection Council in the district in protest against alleged police action on them when they tried to block a church procession was peaceful, barring two incidents of stone throwing on two buses.

Police said a stationary private bus at Irinjalakuda was attacked and its windscreens broken. A state transport corporation bus was also damaged at Cherpu. But none was injured

The hartal was called for protesting over police action against the activists when they blocked passage of Moorkanad Saint Antony's Church procession on April 26.

Shops, government offices and commercial establishments remained closed, while private service buses, autorickshaws and taxi-cars were did not ply.
 

No untoward incidents reported, police added.
