HC imposes Rs 10k as costs on filmmaker Shankar

Press Trust of India Chennai

The Madras High Court Monday

imposed Rs 10,000 as fine on filmmaker Shankar for not appearing in a case related to Rajinikanth-starrer 'Enthiran' and directed him to pay the amount to the Blue Cross Society.

The matter relates to a civil litigation filed by Tamil writer Arur Thamil Nadan who submitted that the movie was based on his story and claimed Rs 1 crore as compensation.

The court had directed Shankar to appear for cross-examination in this case.

The filmmaker had submitted that he has enough material with him to establish that the story was nowhere connected to the writer.

When the case came up before Justice M Sundar on Monday, Shankar's counsel submitted that the filmmaker was not able to appear in person as he was engaged with the shooting of a film.

The petitioner's counsel submitted that his non-appearance meant only to drag on the proceedings.

The judge posted the matter for further hearing to September 12 and imposed costs on Shankar.
