The order was passed by a two-member bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary on a petition filed by one Lallan Rai against the order of Himachal Pradesh University to close all the boys hostels indefinitely in the wake of students' violence in the campus 10-12 days ago.
The petitioner said since the final examinations in the University are on, the order to close the boys hostels was causing hardship to students appearing in the examination.
The bench said it took serious note of varsity teachers indulging in political activities against rules.
It further directed that an inventory of goods be prepared and if available the boys living in these hostels should also be associated with the search operations.
"The University and the police may give necessary intimation forthwith to the students available in the campus and around and for the purpose of search the allottee shall be permitted to enter the premises of the hosel concerned", the court said in its order but also made clear that no other students shall be permitted at the time of search.
