A legal battle that had ensued following a spat over throwing of a water balloon into a car on Holi today came to an end in the Delhi High Court which quashed the FIR and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000, to be paid jointly by two accused brothers and the complainant.
Though Justice Sunil Gaur allowed the joint plea of the two accused and the complaint that the FIR be quashed as they had amicably settled the matter out of court, he imposed the fine on them for misusing the law enforcement agency and subsequent judicial process.
During the hearing, public prosecutor Ritu Gauba sought imposition of costs on the accused and the complainant saying that they cannot be allowed to abuse the process of law by first filing the case and then trying to get it quashed.

Earlier, an FIR was lodged on March 27 by Praveen Dabas, a resident of Pitampura, alleging that accused Ishpreet Singh and his brother Hasveen, hailing from same locality, entered into a spat with him after a water balloon landed in their car on Holi day.
Initially, the accused brothers went away and then came back after some time and trespassed into Dabas' house. The accused assaulted him and his wife before decamping with Rs 2 lakh cash, the FIR alleged.
Penal provisions, relating to house trespass, assault, criminal intimidation and theft, were invoked against the two brothers, the prosecutor said.
However, later the accused and the complainant moved the joint plea in the high court to settle the case after their neighbours mediated the dispute.
