In a suspected case of honour killing, a 17-year-old girl was today shot dead allegedly by her three brothers who also set her body on fire for eloping with a youth in Khair area here, police said.
Devendri, who reportedly left her home on June 14 with a youth, returned this morning and was confronted by her three brothers who allegedly shot her dead and set her body on fire in Sabapur village, police spokesman Udai Veer Malik said.
However, no one from the family approached the police to register a complaint. Police will file a case soon, he said.
"If no family member is ready to file FIR, police will file a case on its own," Malik said.
Senior police officers rushed to the spot and a search has been launched to trace the family members of the girl.
