Huge ammunition seized in Manipur

A combined team of police and Assam Rifles today recovered a huge cache of ammunition from a forest at Sagolmang Pukhao area in Manipur's Imphal East district.

Police said 300 rounds of M-16 rifles, 44 rounds of AK-47 rifles, two detonators and two local-made magazines were found wrapped in a big polythene bag.

It was yet to be known which individual, group or militant outfit kept the ammunition there and for what purpose.

Security forces were keeping a strict vigil in the state ahead of Republic Day.
