Huge quantities of Pseudo-ephedrine, Methamphetamine seized in

Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department officials seized 1,31,58,328 tablets of Pseudo-ephedrine and 63,613 tablets of Methamphetamine during 2013-14 and 2014-15, state excise and narcotics minister R Lalzirliana informed the state Assembly today.

Lalzirliana, in a written reply to a question from Dr K Beichhua of the Mizo National Front (MNF), said 1,03,39,648 tablets of Pseudo-ephedrine were seized during 2013-14, while 28,18,680 tablet were seized during 2014-15.

He said 15,613 tablets and 48,000 tablets of Methamphetamine were seized during 2013-14 and 2014-15 respectively.

The minister said 39 people were arrested in connection with cases involving Pseudo-ephedrine during 2013-14 to 2014-15, while seven persons were arrested during the same period in connection with seizure of Methamphetamine.
 

Crores of ruppees worth Pseudo-ephedrine tablets, legally manufactured in India, were smuggled to Myanmar for clandestine manufacture of Methamphetamine in the neighbouring country and the drug was smuggled back to India via the 404-km-long porous international border along Mizoram.
