A woman was allegedly set
ablaze by her husband today, apparently for not being "beautiful", near hear, police said.
The incident occurred in Mogalarajpuram town of the district, when Anupam Kumar and his wife Shirisha (aged around 25 years), married for nearly two years, had a heated argument in the afternoon and suddenly Anupam poured kerosene over Shirisha, commenting that she is not beautiful and set her afire, Machavaram police officials said.
The husband also caught fire as Shirisha held him while crying out for help, they said adding the couple also have a six- month old baby.
Hearing noises from the house, neighbours reached the spot and doused the flames and took them to a government hospital.
According to doctors, Sirisha's condition is stated to be critical as she suffered with 80 burn injuries, they added.
Machavaram police has registered the case and further investigations are on.
