Thane Joint Commissioner of Police V V Laxmi Narayana said here today that "identity crisis" causes drug addiction in youth.

Delivering his presidential address at a function organised by the Thane police commissionerate on the occasion of 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking', he said that since youth would be 60 per cent of the country's population very soon, it is essential to eradicate addiction to narcotic drugs.

He said that everybody wants an "identity" and does negative things so that he is "identified". If one does good things, he is never identified or taken note of, due to which there is an "identity crisis" which should be handled properly.

He said that students should keep themselves away from peer pressure.
