CBI has arrested an Income Tax Officer posted in Mumbai for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 75,000 for reducing the tax assesement from Rs four lakh to Rs 50,000 only.
The agency sources said a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against Income Tax officer Preeta Babukuttan.
"It was alleged in the complaint that the accused had demanded a bribe from the complainant for according a favour in reducing his assessment of Income Tax from Rs 4 lakhs to Rs 50,000. CBI registered a case under sections 7 and 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act and laid a trap," CBI spokesperson said here today.

She said the accused was caught while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 75,000 from the complainant.
"Searches have been conducted at the residential premises of the accused in Navi Mumbai," the spokesperson said.
