Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister K Palaniswami greeted the people on the eve of the country's 73rd independence day.
Hailing freedom fighters for their sacrifice, Purohit urged everyone to contribute for the nation with true dedication.
"The nation is self reliant... it is respected all over the world for its political leadership, economic growth, deep cultural roots and social cohesion," he said in his message.
Palaniswami said all people, irrespective of caste and religious differences, should work in unison to make the country a superpower.
"Let us also vow to make Tamil Nadu number one state in the country," he said listing out various schemes of the state government aimed at benefiting freedom fighters.
