Indian challenge ends at ITF meet, Rishika, Bhuvana exit

The Indian challenge in singles at the USD 25,000 Endurance ITF Women's Tennis Tournament came to an end today with the elimination of Rishika Sunkara and Bhuvana Kalva in round two.

The women, the last two left in the fray after the elimination of all others, including fifth seeded and India No. 1 Ankita Raina in round one yesterday, lost in straight sets to their opponents at the EMMTC courts here.

Qualifier Bhuvana went down 2-6, 2-6 to eighth seed Xinyun Han of China, while wild card Rishika was trounced 6-1, 6-2 by another Chinese rival Kai Lin Zhang, the second seed.
 

Top seed Linette Magda of Poland was shocked in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 by her Slovakian opponent Dalila Jakupovich.

Other singles results (2nd round): Aleksandrina Naydenova (Bul) bt 7-Tadeja Majeric (Slo) 6-1 6-3; Marie Benoit (Bel) bt Ching Wen Hsu (Tpe) 6-3 6-3; 6-Riko Sawayanagi (Jpn) bt Katy Dunne (GBR) 6-1 7-5; Harriet Dart (GBR) bt Ya-Hsuan Lee (Tpe) (6-1 6-7 3-6; Valentyna Ivakhnenko (Rus) bt Conny Perrin (Sui) 6-7 7-5 6-2.
