The family members of National Disaster Response Force commander Nityanand Gupta -- who died in a chopper crash at Gaurikund in Uttarakhand during a rescue operation -- unfurled the national flag here today on the 67th Independence Day.

Nityanand's wife Madhuri, daughter Sakshi and son Manan hoisted a 21 feet by 14 feet tricolour tied to a 100 feet high flagpole at the Regal Square here.

The program had been organised by 'Apna Samuh Tiranga Abhiyan Sanstha'.

Organisers claimed that it was the biggest tri-colour to be unfurled in the country.

Madhya Pradesh Industries Minister Kailash Vijayawargiya was present on the occasion.

Gupta was one of the 20 people who were killed when Indian Air Force's Mi-17 V5 chopper crashed on June 25 on a rescue mission in the flood-hit Kedarnath valley.
