The Indian industry should go for protection of intellectual property by getting their products patented, an government official said today.
"The Make-in-India campaign initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi means Indian economy will shift from services-led growth to labour-intensive manufacturing-led growth," Chaitanya Prasad, Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks said.
"It is the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) that will determine the country's progress and the Indian industry should move towards the Madrid System as it is used widely since it is simple," Prasad said at a CII seminar here.

Saying that the biggest concern was lack of awareness, Prasad said India could not reap the benefits of registering and protecting trademarks (TM) globally.
"While there are 11,000 TM designations from abroad, the number of Indian applications was about 185," he said.
Hoping that India would catch up with the rest of the world, Prasad said the patent filing system had been made online and available 24x7.
