Infrastructure needs of govt schools will be met: Minister

: All steps will be taken to meet the infrastructure requirements of government schools and colleges in the Union Territory, PWD Minister A Namassivayam today said.

Laying the foundation of the Rs 1.62 crore scheme to construct classrooms at Indira Gandhi Government Arts and Science College in Kadirkamam, the Minister said government schools and colleges had witnessed an increase in enrollment in recent years.

He said funds for the construction of classrooms for the college were allocated from the Rs 2.38 crore earmarked under the Centre's Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan scheme.

'We always ensure that requirements of educational institutions are met without delay,' he said.
 

Education Minister R Kamalakannan, who presided, said performance of students in government schools and colleges had been impressive.
