Insurance industry veteran appointed whole-time IRDA member

Insurance industry veteran Joseph Plappallil J was today appointed as a whole-time member in the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (IRDA).

Joseph has been appointed for a period of five years with effect from the date of assumption of charge or till attaining the age of 62 years, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said.

He will get a consolidated pay of Rs 3.75 lakh per month without facility of house and car, the order said.

Joseph, a graduate in business management, has over 33 years of experience in the general insurance domain. He started his career with General Insurance Corporation of India as a trainee officer in 1979 and worked with New India Assurance Company from 1980 onwards in various capacities until 2009.
 

He took over the top post at Agriculture Insurance Corporation (AIC) on October 18, 2012. Before joining the AIC, he was Director in the company and also General Manager and Director in United India Insurance Company Ltd (UII) from February 2009 to October 2012, where he handled the infotech and health departments.
