A deputy engineer of the irrigation department has been allegedly caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 30,000, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) said Thursday.

Rajendra Shirwadkar was arrested Wednesday at his office here while allegedly taking the bribe from a farmer for issuing a cheque of Rs 51 lakh as a compensation for land, the ACB said in a release.

The complainant's land had been acquired for the Punegaon canal project, the release said.

Shirwadkar had allegedly asked for a bribe to issue the compensation cheque, following which the farmer approached the ACB, it said.
