The Jammu and Kashmir government has showcased the state's tourism potential at a global travel mart here and promised to make scenic Kashmir the most recognised and the hottest destination in India and the world.
The World Travel Market Exhibition 2013, held from November 4-7, saw participation from the global travel industry, offering latest insights, trends and knowledge in the tourism sector.
Recognising Jammu and Kashmir's efforts to further the growth of tourism in the Valley, the International Institute for Peace Through Tourism (IIPTT) conferred Ghulam Ahmad Mir, the state's Minister for Tourism with "Ambassador for Peace" award at a specially organised event by United Nations World Tourism Organsiation at the exhibition here.

Highlighting Kashmir's strategic role in sustainable tourism development, Mir said, "We are quite keen to be part of UNWTO's Silk Route Programme and are willing to work closely with regional partners to collaborate and further the cause of Tourism and Sustainability and the promotion of Peace Through Tourism in the Great Silk Route."
The Minister also invited UNWTO and IIPTT to hold a conference in Srinagar during first half of 2014 which was accepted by Louis D'Amore, who promised to hold the conference in the first half of 2014.
Jammu & Kashmir's participation in the exhibition this year was successful with the the tourism department arranging many B2B meetings with Travel Trade and Media to send the message out that Kashmir is waiting to up the ante and take the tourism in Kashmir to the next level.
As part of these initiatives, the tourism department also held a press meet titled "Back to Beautiful Kashmir", in an effort to change the image and perception about Kashmir and to further the growth of tourism in the Valley.
The department of Tourism in Kashmir is taking proactive initiatives to deliver on its promise of making Kashmir the most recognised and the hottest destination in India and the world.
