Jammu and Kashmir government will formulate a five-year action plan for rapid growth of critical sectors like Agriculture, Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries in the state.
"A 5-year area and sector specific action plan will be formulated for the rapid growth of Agriculture, Dairy, Poultry, Vegetable, Pasture and Fodder Development, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries and the other allied sectors possessing very high potential for generating employment and wealth in the State," an official spokesman said here.
The decision to this effect was taken at the 10th meeting of the University Council of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu, held at Raj Bhavan, here today under the chairmanship of Governor N N Vohra, who is also chancellor of the university.

For this purpose, a Committee comprising Forest minister Mian Altaf, Agriculture minister G H Mir, Minister of State for Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi), Vice Chancellors of both the Farm Universities of the State and the Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production, has been set up to prepare the action plan in collaboration with all the concerned line departments.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is pro-chancellor of the University, also attended the meeting, which approved the establishment of the School of Genomics, Molecular Biology and Microbiology at the varsity, on self-sustainable basis.
