Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Organisation today registered a case against officials of Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) for allegedly colluding with law-breakers and facilitating illegal constructions along the famous water bodies here.
"Pursuant to the order of the High Court, the Vigilance Organisation registered a case under J-K Prevention of Corruption Act and Ranbir Penal Code against officers/officials of Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) Srinagar," a spokesman of the organisation said.
The court, hearing a PIL last week, had observed that several constructions have come up illegally in the prohibited areas either without permission or in violation of the permission granted.

The court also observed that some buildings had come up in violation of Master Plan and also violating the court orders which was indicative of the fact that Enforcement Wing of Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) was acting in "collusion with the law breakers" and "facilitating illegal constructions".
The commissions and omissions on the part of the Enforcement Wing of LAWDA constitute an offence of criminal misconduct, he said, adding, accordingly a case has been registered and investigation taken up.
