British director Guy Hamilton, best known for directing four major James Bond movies, has died at the age of 93.

Hamilton worked with Sean Connery on "Goldfinger" and "Diamonds are Forever" besides directing Roger Moore in "Live and Let Die" and "The Man with the Golden Gun".

Moore paid tribute to Hamilton on his Twitter page.

"Incredibly, incredibly saddened to hear the wonderful director Guy Hamilton has gone to the great cutting room in the sky. 2016 is horrid," Moore said.

Besides the Bond movies, the director was also behind a number of major British films such a Michael Caine-starrer "Battle of Britain", "Funeral in Berlin", "Force 10" and Agatha Christie adaptations- "The Mirror Crack'd" and "Evil Under the Sun".
