Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey to lead Disney Pixar's 'Soul'

Press Trust of India  |  Anaheim (California)

Celebrated actors Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey are set to lead the voice cast of Pixar's "Soul", to be directed by Pete Docter.

The cast also includes Daveed Diggs, Phylicia Rashad, and Questlove, the director and producer Dana Murray announced on Saturday at Disney's biennial D23 Expo here.

"Soul" takes place between New York City and the cosmic realms.

The tagline of the film reads, "Ever wonder where your passion, your dreams and your interests come from? What is it that makes you you?"

While Foxx will voice for Joe Gardner in the film, Fey will play 22.

Questlove will play a character named Curly, the drummer in Joe's band, Rashad will play Joe's mother, and Diggs will play Joe's neighbourhood nemesis, Paul.

Academy Award winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will be creating the music for the film.

"Soul" was announced in June this year and the studio is planning to release it on June 19, 2020.

Apart from "Soul", Pixar also unveiled the new poster of its much-awaited film "Onward", featuring Chris Pratt and Tom Holland as two elf brothers, who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there.

Both the actors, who have previously worked together in Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame" attended the presentation.

"Last time we were here we were space buddies fighting on Titan and now we are elf buddies, fighting in LA," Holland said about reuniting with Pratt.

The "Guardians of the Galaxy" star said Holland was like his "little brother" and working with him on a Pixar movie was a great experience.

"Tom is like my little brother and you will see that reflecting in the movie. It is cool to have that because we are in a Pixar movie and that's awesome.

"To be able to do that and also share the experience with somebody you love that's kind of cool and amplifies the experience," Pratt said.

The animated feature is directed by Dan Scanlon, and the filmmaker said it is inspired by his own relationship with his brother.

"Onward" will hit the theatres on March 6, 2020.

During the presentation, Disney Animation also announced that the company's next animated film will be "Raya and the Last Dragon", an original movie.

The film will feature Cassie Steele as the protagonist Raya and rapper-actor Awkwafina as the dragon, named Sisu.

Talking about her character Awkwafina said, "She is inspired by the auspicious water spirit of Southeast Asia. She is not like any other dragon you have seen before. She is a water dragon."

The film will be an epic fantasy adventure with Southeast asian themes, writer Adele Lim revealed.

It will be centred around "Raya, a lone warrior on a quest to find the last dragon.
