Police today claimed to have cracked the case of the brutal murder of three members of a Dalit family at Jawkhede-Khalsa village in the district with the arrest of Prashant alias Kalu Dilip Jadhav (30).

Prashant's brother Ashok too had been detained, police said. However, the motive behind the crime was not yet known.

Prashant himself had filed the complaint regarding the murder of his uncle Sanjay Jagannath Jadhav (45), his wife Jayashree (37) and their son Anil (19), said district police Superintendent of Police Lakhmi Gautam.

The murders took place on October 20. As the case came on the heels of other cases in the district where Dalits were victims, it caused outrage across the state, with Dalit organisations accusing the administration of apathy.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had visited the Jawkhede village only two days ago.

Prashant was arrested last night and he was remanded in 10-day police custody by sessions court at Pathardi, Gautam said.

Police found murder weapons and blood-stained clothes at the accused's house, he added.
