Jeera prices were down by 0.85 per cent to Rs 15,250 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators offloaded positions amid higher supply from producing belts.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in April month declined by Rs 130, or 0.85 per cent to Rs 15,250 per quintal with an open interest of 9,549 lots.

In a similar fashion, the spice for delivery in March contracts moved down by Rs 115, or 0.76 per cent, to Rs 14,965 per quintal in 13,467 lots.

Analysts said fall in jeera futures was due to offloading of positions by speculators, triggered by higher supply from producing belts.

Low demand in the spot market also put pressure on jeera prices.
