A 32-year-old jeweller was shot dead and his bag containing cash and ornaments worth Rs four lakhs looted near Mohammadpur village under Deva police station area here last night.
Amit Soni who had a jewellery shop in Vishunpur township was returning home on his motorcycle after closing the shop when the assailants on a bike and car opened fire at him, police said.
As Soni fell on the ground, they snatched his bag and fled, police said adding that the villagers who rushed on hearing the gunshots informed the police.
He was taken to the community health centre from where he was referred to Trauma centre Lucknow but he succumbed to injuries on the way , police said adding that hunt has been launched to nab the accused.
